The photos are from the sweets class,
where seven children
came to join us.
After the class,
I introduced them to the streets
and atmosphere of Melbourne —
what kind of people live there,
what kind of workplaces there are,
and what it was like
to work there.
Deep inside,
what I wanted to tell them
was this:
If living in Japan
ever feels difficult,
it is possible to live overseas too.
There are different ways
to live your life.
I ended up trying to include
too many things,
so there were many parts
of the class
I reflected on afterward.
But it was also a precious time
for me,
because I was able to hear
from the mothers
about what things had been like
at the time of the earthquake.
It gave me the chance
to think about it all
in my own way.
